About the San Francisco Community Land Trust:
The San Francisco Community Land Trust (SFCLT) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create permanently affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income people through community ownership of the land. Guided by the principles of anti-displacement and racial justice, SFCLT stabilizes neighborhoods, and creates greater access to housing and homeownership opportunities with a focus on BIPOC communities previously excluded from access to wealth, and in particular, access to homeownership opportunities. SFCLT currently has in its portfolio 13 buildings, over 240 residents, and a tripartite board made up of 1/3 residents, ⅓ members of SFCLT, and ⅓ general representatives of the community.
Summary of Position:
SFCLT seeks a Resident Education & Outreach Coordinator (REOC) to help build and maintain a strong, well-functioning, community-based and democratic organization rooted in empowered resident participation. The REOC’s core responsibilities are to provide: 1) resident outreach and co-op education programs and 2) resident social and financial support services. The REOC will also collaborate with the staff on the following: identifying/assessing co-op transition readiness across buildings in our portfolio; engaging in lease up/vacancy filling for our group/congregate living buildings/communities; providing externally facing outreach and education workshops/presentations on coops and the CLT model; growing our membership; and supporting with our media and website needs. This staff position will require daily work to be done either in our office in San Francisco and/or on site with residents at our properties, as well as, evening/and or weekend hours.
SFCLT Resident Education & Outreach Coordinator: Job Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Resident Education & Outreach (40%)
-Develop, maintain and expand the SFCLT Resident Education Program
-Coordinate meetings, orientation workshops and other outreach activities to residents in newer buildings (285 Turk).
-Provide CLT & Coop Education workshops to buildings identified in our coop feasibility assessment (see collaborative work below).
-Reinvigorate education and participation opportunities for SFCLT residents across the portfolio.
-Recruit residents to participate in the land trust on the board and committees.
-Support the monitoring and evaluation of the education program
Resident Support (30%)
-Ongoing assessment of resident needs across the portfolio and triaging of resident needs to determine which types of social support and financial empowerment tools are appropriate for which residents, and prioritizing cases/groups of residents with more urgent needs than others.
-Connecting residents to social support: tenant counseling, conflict mediation, social services needed due to the needs of particular groups related to but not limited to: disability, mental health, drug/alcohol rehabilitation issues, senior assistance, and services for minors.
-Connecting residents to financial empowerment tools to encourage individual asset building (part of Coop readiness).
Collaborative Work (30%)
Identifying/assessing co-op transition readiness across buildings in our portfolio (ED, Director of Asset Management)
Engaging in lease up/vacancy filling for our group/congregate living buildings/communities (Project Manager, Operations Manager)
Providing externally facing outreach and education workshops/presentations on coops and the CLT model (ED)
Supporting with our media and website needs (ED)
Growing our membership (ED)
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
The ideal candidate will have experience working with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; passionate about the organization’s mission; and have some knowledge/familiarity with CLTs & Co-ops. They will possess excellent skills in community organizing and project management, specifically:
-Minimum of 1 year experience with affordable housing or community development organization.
-Minimum of 1-year direct experience with community organizing and/or popular education around social justice issues.
-100% bilingual in Spanish/English with a high level of fluency to both communicate orally and in written form in both languages.
- Knowledge on how land trusts and/or housing cooperatives function (either through research or based on experience).
-Extroverted and enjoys meeting & speaking with new people
- Leadership skills, including public speaking skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a service-oriented program, including budget management.
- Ability to quickly establish credibility and build strong working relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Results-driven and team-oriented work style.
- Well organized and detail oriented.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office word and excel software. Mail Chimp and Donorbox a plus.
- Ability to update and manage content on square or wordpress.
- Received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
- Local candidates given preference.
While not required, skills or experience in any of the following areas/activities are desirable:
- Bachelor’s Degree;
-Fair Housing certified and/or knowledgeable about Fair Housing laws.
- Grant writing/grant reporting experience
- Working with low- and moderate-income households
- Working with communities that include: children, seniors, people living with disabilities, transgender communities, people living with HIV/AIDs, and people living with mental health issues, or those engaged in drug rehabilitation.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $60,000 a year FTE. SFCLT offers vacation, sick-leave, and health benefits.
