In December 2024, after a multi-year resident organizing effort, the San Francisco Community Land Trust purchased the 16-unit property in the Mission District to convert into permanently affordable housing. At 320 14th Street, one third of the mostly-Latinx households have called this apartment their home for more than 20 years. When building conditions deteriorated and their frustration boiled over into a rent strike, the long-time tenants – including seniors and families – faced serious risk of eviction. After residents organized for years, they eventually found hope in SFCLT’s intervention, which not only secured affordable rental units but may also offer a pathway to homeownership through limited equity cooperatives. This opportunity empowers residents to invest in their community's future, turning a story of struggle into one of resilience and collective ownership, and highlighting the vital role of Community Land Trusts in safeguarding housing for vulnerable populations.
