Strengthening the Community Land Trust Movement Together
The CLT Capacity Collaborative is a regional peer network that brings together land trusts across the Bay Area to collectively learn, share knowledge, and strengthen our organizations together.
We know that real estate development is a complex and highly technical undertaking, and believe that no CLT should have to figure this out alone. As such, we convene the CCC as a bi-monthly meeting to host guest speakers, facilitate panels, lead presentations, and create a space for sharing across organizations.
As SFCLT is uniquely resourced due to the generous MacKenzie Scott grant in 2023, we look to share the resources of our relatively large and technically skilled staff by hosting educational presentations and workshops with the CCC. These have included:
We also utilize both our network and those of the other CCC members to bring in guest speakers to share about exciting opportunities for CLTs in the Bay Area, these have included:
Finally, we facilitate share-outs from within the CCC itself as every organization has a wealth of unique knowledge and experience that enables us to learn so much from within our own membership, these have included:
Development of the CCC
Started in October 2023, the CCC has grown to include 19 community land trusts from across the Bay Area and beyond — ranging from established organizations that have been doing the work for decades, to newer CLTs that are exploring their first acquisition.
CCC Members:
We are grateful to have such a diverse array of CLTs representing many different communities across the Bay Area and bringing a unique set of skills and experience to this collective group.
Our Impact
Through 20+ meetings since its inception in 2023, CLT Capacity Collaborative continues to build a more resilient ecosystem for community ownership in the Bay Area. We look forward to continuing to host conversations that surface practical strategies that would otherwise remain siloed — revealing that while every organization faces unique conditions, the underlying challenges are deeply shared, and can be learned from collectively.
As CLTs across the Bay Area are navigating complex city processes, pursuing challenging funding sources, and working with tenants to intervene in time-sensitive preservation opportunities, SFCLT is grateful to facilitate the CCC as a space where we can share our staff’s expertise with this regional CLT network, and where we can all learn from each other’s experiences and successes.
